From two to four wheels
Maranello, 19 May –Stefano Garzelli won the Giro d’Italia back in 2000 and this year, the former Italian national champion is working as a commentator for the Italian TV company RAI. Today is a rest day on the Giro, after yesterday’s stage 9 ended at Sestola, before it restarts from Modena tomorrow and Garzelli was really looking forward to today as he has been visiting Ferrari in Maranello. He was here along with his wife Maria and another commentator and journalist Francesco Pancani and they visited the main factory areas, which Garzelli described as “incredibly interesting” and something he’d only dreamed of before today.
“It’s the first time I’ve visited Ferrari,” he added. “And everything I saw left me gobsmacked. Even if you don’t like cars, when you get here you find yourself faced with such a perfect production machine, you can only be impressed.” Garzelli went on to reveal he is passionate about Formula 1. “I am a big fan and love the races and when I can I watch them on TV, but my job doesn’t allow me much time. They are different sports, but I think the thrill of speed unites cyclists, car drivers and motorcyclists. The feelings are very different but at the same time very similar.”
