First day of Monterey Car Week

Monterey Car Week has now begun, and the stage is set for another spectacular year of highlights celebrating both the Cavallino Rampante’s modern day masterpieces and its legends of yesteryear. On the track at Laguna Seca, on roads like 17-Mile Drive, and at the collector car auctions, Ferrari and Ferrari Classiche star in the leading role.

Perhaps the most anticipated sale this week takes place at RM Auctions, where a 1962 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 S N.A.R.T. Spider will be sold with proceeds benefiting charity. Owned by the same family since new, this gorgeous Spider is estimated to sell for between $14-17 Million USD, which could break the all-time record for the sale of a classic Ferrari at auction (presently set at $16.4 Million USD).

Also capturing a great deal of attention at the Bonhams Quail Lodge sale is the 1954 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupe with coachwork by Vignale and design by Giovanni Michelotti. One of the stars of the Concourso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este earlier this spring, this one-of-kind Coupe is estimated to sell for $2.8 – $3.4 Million USD.

“New Classics” play a big role in the excitement, too, as values for the Ferrari 246 “Dino,” 288 GTO, 512 Berlinetta Boxer and many more continue to climb. More details of Ferrari’s charge at Pebble Beach will follow in the days to come!
