The Prancing Horse cars to open the Mille Miglia
“The world’s most beautiful road race” is how Enzo Ferrari described the Mille Miglia. Times and fashions have changed and the speed trial, last officially staged in 1957, has been transformed into a historic re-enactment. That said, its charm and fascination remain the same: unique cars, a genuinely enthusiastic crowd and a 1,400-kilometre-plus route north to south and back along Italy’s most stunning roads and landscapes and through its most magical cities.
The fifth edition of the Ferrari Tribute to 1000 Miglia allows Maranello’s clients to take part in their own Ferraris. They depart an hour ahead of the historic Mille Miglia but their route is exactly the same and so they provide an opener for it. The cars involved in the Tribute were all built between 1958 and the present while those built up to 1957 can participate in the historic race.
The event starts on Thursday, May 15 2014 from Brescia and then follows a route that goes via Ferrara, Riccione, Rome, Siena, Pisa and Bologna.
Once again this year, on May 16, the cars and their crews will parade at Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome where they will be applauded by Romans come to salute their endeavour.
In the early hours of the morning of May 17, the participants will drive across the Capital City and then upwards to Siena, Pisa and Bologna. On May 18, they will begin the return journey to the birthplace of the Mille Miglia, Brescia.
