Jorge Lorenzo visits Ferrari
Maranello, 8 July – It was a special morning for Yamaha MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo, who was on a visit to Maranello. The Spaniard was taken to the Atelier, where he was able to see the LaFerrari and the new California T, as well as visiting the assembly line where the 8 and 12 cylinder Ferraris are born.
Lorenzo then went to the Fiorano track, where he met Scuderia Ferrari test driver Marc Gene, who was working as a tutor to owners of classic Formula 1 cars. He also met Fernando Alonso who was tackling a simulator session at the same time that Pedro de la Rosa was testing at Silverstone.
Jorge enjoyed the visit: “It’s amazing what Enzo Ferrari created and there is a great affection for this brand which is different to any other in the world. There’s something special about it, let’s call it charisma or magic and even for a sportsman like me, Ferrari has a unique appeal.” Just like Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso in Formula 1, Lorenzo shares his pit garage with a world champion, namely Valentino Rossi. “Having him in the team is always challenging and you always have to give your best, because otherwise you end up behind.” Lorenzo had some words about his own relationship with four wheeled racing. “A while ago I tried a race car, a GP2 machine, but I realised that everyone should stick to what they’re good at. I’m good at riding bikes, but on four wheels, I could never reach the level of Alonso and Raikkonen.”
