An incredible show of Ferraris from past to present
Ferrari at Pebble Beach is like a leading actor at a film premier: drawing crowds and attention at every turn. From time-honored, Classiche-certified masterworks to the stunning new 488 GTB, Ferrari is quite literally painting the town red as the action kick-offs at Monterey Car Week.
Today began with the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, which included many of the cars to be featured at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in a road rally from Carmel to Big Sur and back. Ferrari – which is the honored marque at this year’s Concours – was as well the standout on the Tour.
To add to the action, the 488 GTB is also making its North American driving debut this week to a chorus of rave reviews. Clients and motoring critics departed from Casa Ferrari for a zip along the serpentine coast, and upon return, the remark heard time and time again was a variation on this theme: “Somehow Ferrari has improved upon the perfection of the 458 Italia with the extraordinary 488 GTB.”
Finally, the stage is set at the prestigious auction houses, with an array of significant Ferraris poised to change hands — and make headlines — in the coming days. Among those crossing the block first at RM Auctions are Pope John Paul II’s 2005 Enzo; a 1964 250 LM; a 1959 250 GT Long Wheelbase California Spider; and a 1960 250 GT Short Wheelbase Berlinetta Competizione. All eyes will be fixed once again on the Prancing Horse.
