Ferrari Spectacle in Spa
What could be nicer than driving a Ferrari on one of the most beautiful race tracks in the world? Can’t think of anything off hand and the question didn’t even arise for around 700 guests of the Ferrari Owners Day, which took place last week, organised by the Maranello marque at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Around 250 cars were the real stars of the event as they wended their way around the seven kilometres of this track against the magical backdrop of the Ardennes forest. There were some fabulous cars including the short wheelbase 250 GT and the 250 GT California Spider and all those taking part got the chance to meet a driver who wrote one of the most important chapters of his career on this very track. It was at the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix that Giancarlo Fisichella took an amazing pole position at the wheel of a Force India. However, the next day the Italian was denied victory by a Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen’s F60, but in some ways the second place he took that day was his ticket to a drive with the Scuderia, which came at the next race. Today, Fisichella flies the Prancing Horse flag in GT races and in fact, here at Spa he took a great win in the 2011 1000 Kilometres. This weekend he had the honour of leading the parade that brought the event to a close.
